Nude One is a 15 inch by 30 inch archival print from an artwork by Lyle Suter. The year of production is unknown. The artwork is a tasteful painting of a nude model in a sensual and playful position lying on her back on a rectangular table in mid afternoon.
Although completely nude, Mr. Suter gives the model classy cover with a position and view showing only half her body and escorted by a potted plan. He artfully highlights the subject with her feminine foot barely touching the floor, sexy face and thick, abundant flowing hair that is capped with a rose. Mr. Suter’s talent in framing his subject with an outstanding background is present again. Here he uses a simple white curtain and gray walls to highlight her beautiful skin, upper body and position.
The nude figure is a tradition in Western art, and has been used to express ideals of male and female beauty and other human qualities. It was a central preoccupation of Ancient Greek art, and after a semi-dormant period in the Middle Ages returned to a central position in Western art with the Renaissance (Wikipedia). In May 2018 a Pablo Picasso painting of a teenage nude girl with flowers was purchased for $115 million. Painted in 1905 during Picasso’s Rose Period, Young Girl with a Flower Basket was originally sold for $30 or the equivalent of $800 in 2018.
