Despite great success, notoriety & multi-sport credentials, only one member of the 1975 Ocean League Champs, Steve Craig, received an offer to play basketball in college. Dick Schreiber, BHHS Head Basketball Coach, 1975 Ocean League Coach of the Year, wrote NO letters of recommendations for his players and gave NO guidance about attending & training for college to graduating students who participated in the BHHS basketball program since 8th grade.

All CIF All League BHHS Hall of Famer Brad Turell eventually received help from Hank Friedman, BHHS Baseball Coach. and made the Varsity basketball team at University of California at Santa Barbara. Mike Suter, 1975 BHHS Sports Hall of Fame & Honorable Mention Top Prep Players CIF playoffs, made the junior varsity team at Arizona State University, only after letters of recommendation from Robert Craig Sr. (Steve's Dad) and Steve Militich, BHHS Vice Principal. Miller Johnson, maybe the only All League 3 sport Norman in history of BHHS, was vanquished to Santa Monica City College & Mexico when he should have been playing football in the PAC 8 or WAC and then possibly the NFL.  But we will never know...

GIRLS SPORTS GETS COMPETITIVE: GAA TO GIA

Deborah Roberson, Vickie Govan & Angie Grimes, 1973

GIRLS INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS (GIA)

"The transition from Girls Athletic Association (GAA) to GIA  was due to the changing interest among girls from a program of a low competitive level to that of a high level.  GIA is more highly organized and places a greater emphasis on competition. The swimming, hockey, badminton and archery teams have now been replaced by volleyball, basketball and track."

Margie Weir and Herlene Lu
